BBSC Coach Code of Conduct

"An Opportunity to Make a Difference"

  • I will be responsible for all the kids on my team.

  • I will do my best to insure that all the kids have fun playing soccer.

  • I will treat all kids with respect and avoid negative criticism.

  • I will teach all kids the skills of the game, the values of teamwork and the meaning of good sportsmanship.

  • I will lead by example and always demonstrate good sportsmanship during games (If one of your players is disrespectful, irresponsible or overly aggressive in a game, take the player out of the game at least long enough for him/her to calm down).

  • I will see that “all kids play” regardless of skill level.

  • I will provide only encouragement and positive direction to players during games.

  • I will know the rules and always play by the rules.

  • I will respect the officials and their authority during games (During the game, do no address the referee at all. After the game, thank the referee and ask your players to do the same).

  • If you have a major complaint, or if you think the referee was unfair, biased, unfit or incompetent, report your opinion to your league. Your reactions will be taken seriously if they are presented objectively and formally.

  • I will communicate with the parents on my team and inform them of all practices and games.

  • I will respect all facilities and equipment made available for my team to practice and play games.

  • I will never use profanity, abusive language or threatening behavior towards any player, parent, coach or official.

  • I will report to the BBSC staff any perceived misconduct by coach, player, parent or official so it can be dealt with in the appropriate manner.

  • I will maintain current Risk Management Certification.

To clarify expectations of coach conduct, the BBSC expects all coaches to conform to this code of conduct. Your example is powerful, for better or worse. You should insist on fair play and concentrate on your player’s enjoyment of the game and their overall, long term development. If you support the referee, your players and their parents will notice. Coaches should be an example of dignity, patience, and positive spirit. Coaches who don’t follow the expectation described above will be disciplined or removed.
